06-10-2024An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader in Punjab was injured after allegedly being shot by a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader during a heated exchange in Fazilka district. Mandeep Singh Brar, the local AAP leader, sustained a bullet wound and was initially taken to a government hospital in Jalalabad. Due to his critical condition, he was later referred to the district medical center in Ludhiana for advanced treatment.
Jalalabad AAP MLA Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy accused SAD leader Vardev Singh Mann of firing the shot. The incident occurred outside the block development and panchayat officer (BDPO) office when Vardev Singh Mann, the son of former MP Zora Singh Mann, approached the BDPO regarding the clearance of a file related to a school. When the request was denied, the Akali leaders appeared visibly upset and left the office.
A confrontation ensued outside the BDPO office between the Akali leaders and Mandeep Singh Brar, during which the shot was reportedly fired. Fazilka senior police officer Varinder Singh Brar arrived in Jalalabad after learning about the incident and confirmed that an investigation is underway.
