Aditya Dhar clarifies Dhurandhar 2 delays as shows face cancellations across India
The filmmaker addressed confusion over screenings, citing technical issues behind disruptions to the multi-language release of Dhurandhar 2
18-03-2026Amid widespread confusion over cancelled and delayed screenings, filmmaker Aditya Dhar has issued a statement explaining the situation surrounding the release of Dhurandhar 2.
Taking to social media, Dhar said the film is a deeply personal project for the team and was intended for a simultaneous release across languages. However, he confirmed that technical challenges disrupted scheduled screenings in several regions.
According to Dhar, most Hindi screenings across India began as planned from the evening, while Tamil and Telugu shows were pushed to later hours. Meanwhile, Malayalam and Kannada versions have been delayed further and are expected to start only the following day.
He also assured audiences that those unable to watch their booked language version could either opt for refunds or choose to watch the Hindi version with subtitles.
The film’s rollout has been particularly affected in regions like Delhi-NCR, where multiple cinema chains reportedly cancelled or postponed early evening shows. Premium formats such as IMAX were also impacted, with bookings being withdrawn at the last minute.
In Mumbai, iconic theatres like Gaiety Galaxy saw delays stretching into hours, leaving large crowds waiting outside as screenings failed to start on time.
Reports suggest that last-minute edits and certification-related changes contributed to delays, along with technical requirements such as content delivery and activation keys needed for screenings.
The biggest disruption has been in southern markets, where non-Hindi versions were not ready in time. Theatre operators in cities like Chennai confirmed that they did not receive the required content for Tamil and other dubbed versions, forcing cancellations.
Industry experts indicated that while the Hindi version was completed, post-production work on dubbed editions—particularly sound and final edits—was still pending, causing the delay.
Directed by Dhar, the film features a strong ensemble including Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi.
Despite the setbacks, the makers have apologised for the inconvenience and expressed hope that audiences will continue to support the film once screenings stabilise.
