In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack that left 25 tourists and a local Kashmiri dead, emotions are running high, and singer Adnan Sami has clashed with Pakistani politician Fawad Ahmed Hussain Chaudhry over the aftermath. Chaudhry, a former minister from Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, made a controversial remark on social media, questioning what action was being taken against Adnan Sami after India set a deadline for Pakistani nationals to leave the country.
Adnan Sami, who was born in the UK to a Pakistani father and a Jammu-born mother, has been living in India since 2001. He initially held a visitor's visa and later obtained Pakistani and Canadian citizenship. In 2015, he applied for Indian citizenship, which was granted in 2016.
In response to Chaudhry's dig, Sami took to X (formerly Twitter), calling him an "illiterate idiot" for his comment.
The situation escalated when Fawad Chaudhry made a personal jibe about Sami's weight loss journey, stating that the singer now looked like a "deflated balloon," a comment widely seen as offensive. In his response, Sami sarcastically addressed the former minister, calling him a "dumba**" and corrected him by pointing out that his roots were in Peshawar, not Lahore. Sami also mocked Chaudhry’s tenure as Minister of Information, suggesting that his understanding of facts was sorely lacking.
Sami continued to taunt Chaudhry, saying, "Meri tho hawa nikal gaee, Tu abhi bhi Balloon hai" (I may have been deflated, but you’re still a balloon). He also questioned Chaudhry's tenure as Minister of Science, suggesting it was based on "bulls**t."
Like many Indians, Sami has expressed deep sorrow over the Pahalgam attack, which occurred at Baisaran meadow when terrorists cold-bloodedly shot 25 tourists and a local. In the wake of the tragedy, Sami posted an emotional message, stating that his heart was shattered and questioning the depths to which humanity could sink. "How can the beauty of nature be turned into a backdrop for such horrific crimes against humanity?" he wrote.
Following the attack, India has taken a series of strong actions against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, reducing diplomatic representation, and halting visa services to Pakistani nationals. This has further intensified tensions between the two neighboring countries, resulting in a heated exchange on social media between public figures.
