Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a large gathering of the Indian diaspora at the 'Modi and US' event in Long Island, New York, gave a new twist to the term AI, stating, "For me, AI means American Indians." He credited this spirit of the Indian-American community for strengthening the relationship between India and the United States.
The event, held at Nassau Coliseum, saw enthusiastic members of the Indian community chanting "Modi, Modi" as the Prime Minister was welcomed. Beginning his address with "Bharat Mata ki Jai," PM Modi emphasized how the Indian greeting "Namaste" has transcended borders, becoming a global term.
"You have built a bridge between India and America with your immense talent, dedication, and skills," Modi said, adding that no distance, no matter how vast, could diminish the connection between the Indian diaspora and their homeland.
Ahead of the Prime Minister's arrival, the venue was filled with excitement as Indian-Americans displayed "Welcome Modi" posters in various languages. Cultural performances showcasing traditional Indian dance forms were also part of the celebration, with over 500 artists set to perform throughout the event.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi arrived in New York after attending the Quad Leaders' Summit in Delaware, hosted by US President Joe Biden. At the Summit, which took place in Wilmington, Biden's hometown, PM Modi discussed key global issues with fellow leaders, including Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The summit covered topics such as security cooperation, technology sharing, and international governance, with Modi underscoring the importance of a rules-based international order and respect for sovereignty—a subtle reference to China.
During his visit, PM Modi also participated in the Cancer Moonshot event hosted by President Biden, which focused on efforts to combat cervical cancer.
On Monday, PM Modi is scheduled to address the Summit of the Future at the United Nations General Assembly and participate in a roundtable discussion with American CEOs, exploring emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and semiconductors.
There is also speculation that former US President Donald Trump may meet with PM Modi during his visit, although this has not been officially confirmed by either side.
