Air India has confirmed that all 225 passengers and 19 crew members aboard flight AI-183, en route from New Delhi to San Francisco, are safe following an emergency landing at Krasnoyarsk International Airport (KJA) in Russia on July 18. The precautionary diversion occurred after the cockpit crew detected a potential issue in the cargo hold area.
The Boeing 777 aircraft landed safely, and no injuries have been reported among those on board. Upon landing, passengers and crew disembarked and were taken to the terminal building for processing.
Air India, lacking its own staff at Krasnoyarsk, is coordinating with third-party support to assist the passengers. The airline is working with government and regulatory authorities to arrange a ferry flight to continue the journey to San Francisco. An Air India spokesperson assured that the airline is focused on ensuring the health, safety, and comfort of the passengers while the necessary arrangements are made.
Passengers are being provided with food, accommodations, and other necessary assistance. Further updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.
Air India expressed its gratitude to passengers and their families for their patience and understanding during this unexpected situation, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of its customers and crew remains a top priority.
