Alia Bhatt and Sadhguru Debate Sleep, Productivity and Life in Candid Conversation

A lighthearted remark about sleeping eight hours turned into a thoughtful exchange between Alia Bhatt and Sadhguru on how people use their time and energy

A simple confession about enjoying long hours of sleep led to an unexpectedly deep discussion when Alia Bhatt appeared in conversation with spiritual teacher Sadhguru.

During a session streamed on Sadhguru’s YouTube channel, the actress mentioned that she typically sleeps for eight to nine hours a day. The response from the spiritual leader was immediate and pointed — he noted that this amounts to nearly one-fourth of the day and questioned how much time then remains for truly living.

Sadhguru contrasted her routine with his own, explaining that he rests for only four to five hours daily — a pattern he adopted following a past accident. In his view, reducing sleep can create more time and intensity for life experiences.

Bhatt, however, offered a perspective many people might relate to. She emphasised that sleep is widely considered essential for physical repair and mental recovery. She openly admitted that she genuinely enjoys sleeping and sometimes feels like extending her rest even after a full night’s sleep.

Sadhguru responded by shifting the focus from sleep itself to daily habits. He suggested that exhaustion often results from the way people overstimulate themselves during the day, only to seek relaxation later. He also argued that people don’t truly “love” sleep, since deep sleep comes without awareness; rather, they value the restoration that follows.

Learning From a Child’s Joy

The discussion also turned personal when Bhatt’s daughter, Raha, entered the conversation. Sadhguru described children as naturally closer to life and full of spontaneous joy. He suggested that adults often have as much to learn from children as they try to teach them.

Encouraging observation over instruction, he advised Bhatt to watch and learn from her child’s natural way of being, saying that a child’s vitality offers lessons in living fully.

Bhatt married actor Ranbir Kapoor in April 2022 after several years together, and the couple welcomed their daughter later that year.

The interaction took place during an event organised by Jain International Trade Organisation in Chennai, reportedly hosted at The Leela Palace Chennai.

On the professional front, Bhatt was last seen in Jigra and is preparing for upcoming releases including Alpha and Love & War, where she will share screen space with Ranbir Kapoor as well as actors Vicky Kaushal and Bobby Deol.
