Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has prompted concern among fans after announcing that he will be taking a short break from writing on social media, following medical advice to rest and recover. The actor, who routinely shares personal reflections and updates with followers on X and his blog, did not disclose the reason for the recommendation.
In his latest post, Bachchan apologised for his temporary absence, writing, “I beg your forgiveness; I've been advised to take some time off for a few days to rest and recuperate, so I'm not able to write anything...”
The 84-year-old actor's message comes weeks after he revealed that he had injured his knee while filming an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 18. Although he did not link his latest announcement to the injury, the earlier incident has added to fans' concerns about his health.
Amitabh Bachchan had revealed knee injury on KBC 18
During an episode of the quiz show earlier this month, Bachchan broke from his usual opening routine after telling viewers that he was struggling with a knee injury sustained during the previous day's shoot.
Rather than delivering his introductory monologue while standing at the centre of the stage, the veteran actor remained seated and explained the reason for the change.
“Usually, I do my monologue standing at the centre, but today, I have a knee injury,” he told the audience. He subsequently described how he had slipped and fallen on the set during filming the day before, injuring his left knee.
Bachchan indicated that the injury was not serious and continued interacting with contestants, though he opted to remain seated during the opening segment because of the discomfort. The studio audience expressed concern and wished him a speedy recovery.
Earlier blog post on hospital recovery raised questions
The actor had also drawn attention in July after publishing a blog entry about the challenges people face following hospitalisation, surgery and time in intensive care. The post did not establish whether he was describing his own medical experience or discussing recovery more broadly.
Reflecting on the transition from hospital care to returning home, Bachchan highlighted the physical, emotional and practical difficulties that can follow discharge.
He wrote, “In Hospital in a surgery and in the ICU, under the care of proficient Doctors and medical Staff, a discharge and a homecoming. This homecoming period is the most difficult phase, physically, psychologically and practically.”
In the same entry, he spoke about resilience and the different ways people respond to adversity, observing that some persevere while others struggle to move forward. He concluded by wishing readers well and encouraging them to be happy.
Bachchan has not provided further details about his current condition in his latest social media message.
Amitabh Bachchan's upcoming projects
Despite the temporary break from writing, Bachchan remains associated with Kaun Banega Crorepati 18, the television quiz show he hosts. He is also expected to reprise his role in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, the science-fiction film directed by Nag Ashwin.
For now, the actor's announcement has left fans waiting for an update on his recovery and return to his regular online interactions.
