Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, have announced their separation after nearly three decades of marriage. The decision, described as painful and emotionally challenging, was confirmed through statements released on November 19 and 20.

In a heartfelt note shared on social media, Rahman expressed his sorrow over the separation, saying, "We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again." He thanked friends and well-wishers for their support and asked for privacy during this delicate time.

The announcement follows a statement issued by Saira Banu's lawyer, Vandana Shah, highlighting the emotional strain in their relationship. The statement explained, "Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband, Mr. AR Rahman, after many years of marriage. Despite their deep love for each other, tensions and challenges have created a gap that neither party feels able to bridge." It added that Saira made the choice out of "pain and agony" and requested privacy as she navigates this period of change.

The couple, who tied the knot in Chennai in 1995, share three children—Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. Rahman’s message reflected his deep emotional turmoil, stating that he had hoped their journey together would continue to the milestone of 30 years.

The separation marks the end of a long and significant chapter for one of India's most celebrated musicians and his family, with both parties requesting understanding and space as they move forward.
