Indian music icon AR Rahman has recorded a special 30-minute performance video in support of Kamala Harris' presidential campaign, marking him as the first international artist from South Asia to endorse the U.S. Vice President, who has mixed Indian and African heritage. The performance aims to boost Harris' visibility ahead of the U.S. elections scheduled for November 5, where she hopes to become the first Black woman, and the first woman overall, to serve as President of the United States.
Shekar Narasimhan, Chairperson of the Asian-American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Victory Fund, praised Rahman’s involvement, saying, "AR Rahman has lent his voice to a growing movement of leaders and artists who are championing progress and representation in America." The AAPI Victory Fund is a political committee that seeks to encourage Asian Americans, native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders to participate in the electoral process and shape the future of the country.
Narasimhan further emphasized that Rahman’s performance is more than just music—it’s a powerful call to action for communities to engage and vote. He stressed that Rahman’s endorsement underlines the importance of AAPI voters in this election cycle, signaling increased support for the Harris-Walz ticket.
A teaser video featuring AR Rahman and Indiaspora founder MR Rangaswami has already been released, generating anticipation for the full performance. The event will showcase some of Rahman’s most beloved songs, paired with messages supporting Kamala Harris' candidacy and highlighting her commitment to the AAPI community.
The full performance will be broadcast on the AAPI Victory Fund's YouTube channel on October 13 at 8 pm ET.
