Singer Arijit Singh has addressed the buzz around his decision to step away from accepting fresh playback projects, explaining that the move has been evolving in his mind for quite some time. In a series of personal messages shared on his private X account, the 38-year-old said the shift reflects his need for artistic renewal rather than a sudden break.
Singh said multiple factors contributed to his choice, adding that he finally found the resolve to act on thoughts he had been carrying for years. He admitted that his creative nature often pushes him to seek constant change, which is why he frequently reimagines his songs during live performances and experiments with new arrangements.
According to the singer, this restlessness eventually turned into exhaustion with routine work. He shared that he now feels the urge to explore unfamiliar musical spaces in order to grow and stay inspired.
Another motivation behind the decision, Singh noted, is his wish to make room for emerging talent. He said he looks forward to discovering and listening to new voices that can genuinely excite and influence him as a listener and musician.
Reassuring fans, Singh made it clear that he is not quitting music altogether. He said he plans to devote more time to learning, creating original work independently and approaching music again as a “small artist,” driven purely by curiosity and passion.
He also clarified that previously signed commitments will be honoured, meaning listeners may still hear his voice in upcoming releases this year. However, he stressed that no new playback projects will be taken on going forward.
Earlier this week, in a New Year message to fans, Singh publicly confirmed the end of this phase of his career, thanking audiences for years of support and calling his playback journey deeply fulfilling.
His latest playback song is Maatrubhumi from Battle of Galwan. While details of his independent projects remain under wraps, Singh has confirmed that live performances and non-playback music will remain central to his artistic future.
