The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has ordered an internal inquiry following allegations of financial irregularities related to offerings made by devotees at Badrinath Dham. The move comes after claims circulating on social media raised concerns over the handling of temple donations.
BKTC Chairman Hemant Dwivedi said the committee has treated the allegations with seriousness and has directed that an inquiry committee be constituted to examine the matter. He also confirmed that explanations have been sought from the employees linked to the allegations.
The controversy gained attention after an organisation named Bhairav Sena accused certain individuals of financial misconduct at Badrinath Dham. The group also called for an impartial investigation into an alleged case involving a staff member associated with the Temple Committee Chairman.
Responding to social media claims, Dwivedi clarified that the employee being described as his personal secretary is, in fact, a regular government employee of the BKTC. He added that the individual has previously served as a personal assistant to three former chairpersons of the committee and is not his personal secretary.
The BKTC Chairman assured that if the inquiry establishes any wrongdoing, strict action will be taken against those found responsible in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.
BKTC Chief Executive Officer Sohan Singh Rangad said officials reviewed CCTV footage from the Badrinath Temple premises after the allegations surfaced. However, he noted that the available footage lacked sufficient clarity to conclusively verify the claims.
Rangad said the Chairman has been informed about the developments, and directions have been issued to obtain written explanations from the employees concerned. He added that a proposal to formally establish an internal inquiry committee has already been submitted to ensure a transparent and comprehensive investigation.
According to the CEO, the committee will examine all available evidence, relevant documents and statements before submitting its findings. If the investigation uncovers any violations or financial misconduct, appropriate departmental and legal action will be initiated under the provisions of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee Act, 1939, as well as the applicable employee conduct rules.
Appealing for restraint, Rangad urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims, noting that the issue is closely connected to the religious sentiments of millions of devotees and should be handled responsibly until the inquiry is completed.
