Ishtiaque Sadeque has resigned from his role as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), marking a significant development on a turbulent day for Bangladesh cricket. His decision came just hours after Bangladesh were officially dropped from the 2026 T20 World Cup following the board’s refusal to send the national team to India over security-related concerns. The ICC subsequently confirmed Scotland as Bangladesh’s replacement in the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Ishtiaque confirmed that he had submitted his resignation, stressing that the move was driven purely by personal reasons. He explained that increasing family responsibilities had made it difficult for him to devote the level of time and attention required for his role, particularly in the area of cricket development.
Ishtiaque, who headed the BCB’s Development Committee and is considered a close confidant of BCB Chairman Aminul Islam Bulbul, said he felt he could no longer do justice to the responsibilities entrusted to him. Acknowledging this limitation, he said stepping aside was the most honest course of action.
He was quick to dismiss speculation that his exit was linked to internal conflict or dissatisfaction within the board. According to him, his relationships within the BCB remain cordial, and there were no disagreements or personal grievances behind the decision.
Expressing confidence in the future, Ishtiaque said he believes his successor will be capable of taking Bangladesh’s cricket development agenda forward. Even after leaving the board, he reiterated his willingness to support the game in any way possible.
With Bangladesh cricket navigating uncertainty after its World Cup exclusion, Ishtiaque’s resignation has raised questions about whether further changes could follow within the BCB leadership.
