The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday declared a financial reward of ₹131 crore for the national team following their victorious campaign in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The team, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, secured the title with a dominant display in the final played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The prize money is higher than the ₹125 crore bonus the board awarded after India’s previous triumph in the 2024 edition of the tournament under Rohit Sharma. This time, the amount has been increased by ₹6 crore, reflecting the significance of the team’s achievement.
India etched their name in cricket history by becoming the first side to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup three times. The victory was particularly meaningful as it came at the same stadium where India had suffered a painful loss to Australia national cricket team in the final of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Explosive Batting Performance in the Final
In the championship match against the New Zealand national cricket team, India delivered a spectacular batting performance. The team posted a formidable total of 255 for five wickets after three top-order batters each scored half-centuries.
Sanju Samson continued his exceptional form during the knockout stage, scoring another crucial innings. The opener registered his third consecutive score above 80 runs in the elimination rounds, a remarkable streak that ultimately earned him the Player of the Tournament honour.
Higher Reward Than 2024 Title
The ₹131 crore payout marks a notable increase compared to the ₹125 crore prize announced after the 2024 victory. The larger reward reflects the scale of India’s accomplishment this year, as the team not only lifted the trophy but also became the first to defend the men’s T20 World Cup title successfully.
Throughout the tournament, India displayed consistent dominance. The team lost just one game, against the South Africa national cricket team during the Super 8 stage. Apart from that defeat, India maintained strong performances and concluded the competition with a convincing win in the final.
India’s Recent Success in ICC Tournaments
India’s latest triumph adds to an impressive run of achievements in international cricket. The momentum began with the men’s T20 World Cup title in 2024, ending a lengthy wait for a global trophy in the format.
The success continued in 2025 when India won the ICC Champions Trophy, further strengthening their position in white-ball cricket.
The country’s women’s team also contributed to the winning streak by claiming the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup and receiving a ₹51 crore reward from the BCCI. At the youth level, India’s dominance extended to the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup as well.
With the 2026 T20 title, India now hold five major ICC trophies across men’s, women’s and junior competitions—more than any other nation at present.
What Lies Ahead
Looking ahead, the India women's national cricket team will aim to continue the momentum in the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the India national cricket team will shift focus to the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Winning that tournament could allow India to simultaneously hold the T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy and ODI World Cup titles—an achievement rarely seen in international cricket.
