A woman, whose assault was captured in a viral video along with a man in West Bengal's Uttar Dinajpur district, has reversed her stance, claiming the footage was recorded without her consent. Currently recuperating in a government hospital, she has filed a written complaint with the police, seeking action against those who filmed her being repeatedly beaten by an alleged aide of a Trinamool Congress MLA in the Chopra area.

"I don't know who made my video viral. I have submitted a written complaint at the police station against whoever made it viral. Someone made that video viral without my permission. I have appealed to the police to ensure punishment against those who did it. I have full faith in the police," she stated.

The man seen in the viral video assaulting the couple with a bamboo stick has been identified as Tajmul alias 'JCB,' reportedly a Trinamool Congress leader in the Chopra area. Arrested on June 30, he was remanded to five days in police custody following his court appearance.

The opposition BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress of enforcing "Taliban rule" and "Sharia law" in West Bengal, alleging Tajmul's connection to Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahaman, who defended him despite the party's condemnation of the incident. The BJP has demanded Mamata Banerjee's resignation, citing a collapse of law and order in the state.

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar accused the police of colluding with the state government, alleging that the public flogging was ordered by Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahaman. "There is a Talibani rule in West Bengal. There is a rise in mob lynching incidents from Cooch Behar to Chopra. Such incidents will continue happening in front of the police. People have lost trust in the police. We can't even see the police through a microscope. This has been done on MLA Hamidul Rahaman's orders," Majumdar told reporters.

Governor CV Ananda Bose, who has had strained relations with the state government, has sought a report from Mamata Banerjee on the incident, describing it as "barbarous." Currently in Delhi, Bose plans to visit Chopra on Tuesday to meet the victims and will likely report to the central government afterward.

Police reports indicate that the couple's public flogging was ordered by a kangaroo court over allegations of an illicit relationship. Locals allege that Tajmul is notorious for conducting such courts and extorting money. Hamidul Rahaman accused the couple of "polluting society" through their illicit relationship. "The couple was allegedly engaged in an illicit relationship, which is why they were beaten up. They were socially polluting society through their activities. The woman was at fault for getting involved in an illicit relationship despite having a son and husband. Is this not a crime? Is this not an immoral act?" Rahaman commented.

Amid the controversy, senior Trinamool Congress leader Shantanu Sen assured that the state government is addressing the situation. "We do not support such incidents. The victims have been provided with security. Anyone else involved will also not be spared," he said.
