In a significant development following the tragic Hathras stampede, a case has been formally lodged against Suraj Pal Singh, popularly known as Bhole Baba, in connection with the incident that claimed 121 lives. The legal action, filed before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Patna, marks a pivotal step in the ongoing investigation into the July 2 stampede at a satsang in Hathras.

Bhole Baba, expressing his deep remorse over the incident, conveyed a message of condolence and urged affected families to maintain trust in the judicial process. In a video statement, he spoke solemnly, saying, "I am deeply saddened by the events of July 2. May we find strength to bear this immense pain. I urge everyone to have faith in our government and administration. I believe those responsible for this tragedy will face justice. Through my legal counsel, AP Singh, I have appealed to the investigative committee to support the bereaved families and assist the injured in every possible way."

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Police took decisive action by apprehending Dev Prakash Madhukar, identified as the main accused in the stampede case. Madhukar, known as the 'mukhya sevadar' at the satsang, was arrested late on Friday night and is slated to appear before a local court on Saturday. He is the sole individual named in the First Information Report (FIR) and is expected to cooperate with authorities, providing insights into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the involvement of alleged "anti-social elements."

Simultaneously, a specialized judicial commission, led by a retired high court judge and appointed by the state government on July 3, has initiated an inquiry into the Hathras tragedy. The commission's mandate includes investigating the sequence of events leading to the stampede and probing any potential conspiratorial elements behind it. Recently, the commission's team arrived at Hathras police lines to commence their review, receiving preliminary reports from local authorities detailing the incident's aftermath.

In the state capital of Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath received an initial report from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) regarding the stampede. The report, submitted by the Additional Director General (ADG) of Agra Zone, who oversaw relief efforts in Hathras, includes critical assessments from Hathras District Magistrate Ashish Kumar, Superintendent of Police Nipun Aggarwal, and senior health officials involved in managing the crisis.

On a separate front, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, visited Hathras to meet with grieving families affected by the stampede. Prior to his visit to Hathras, Gandhi also extended his condolences to families in Aligarh who lost loved ones in the tragic incident. Following his meetings, Gandhi appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to expedite compensation for victims' families and pledged to raise the matter in Parliament to prevent future occurrences of such tragedies.

The unfolding events have sparked a nationwide debate on public safety measures during mass gatherings and the accountability of organizers and local authorities in ensuring crowd control and safety protocols.
