A man broke through security during Rahul Gandhi’s Purnea–Araria bike rally, briefly hugging and kissing him before being restrained
24-08-2025Congress leader Rahul Gandhi experienced a brief security lapse during his Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar on Sunday, when a man broke through the security cordon and kissed him on the shoulder.
The incident occurred on the Purnea–Araria stretch, where Gandhi, accompanied by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, was leading the rally on a motorbike. A video from the event shows the individual suddenly approaching the Opposition leader, hugging him, and planting a kiss on his left shoulder before security officials intervened. The man was quickly restrained and removed from the spot, with security personnel preventing further disturbance.
The yatra, which spans 16 days and covers nearly 1,300 kilometres, began in Sasaram on August 17. Its primary objective is to highlight alleged discrepancies in Bihar’s voter lists. The campaign will pass through over 20 districts before concluding with a major rally in Patna on September 1.
Despite the brief disruption, Gandhi and Yadav continued to engage with large crowds along the route. Later in the day, the two leaders are scheduled to hold a joint press interaction in Araria alongside other members of the INDIA bloc, PTI reported.
