Mumbai Police are investigating a late-night shooting incident near director Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, after the Lawrence Bishnoi gang publicly claimed responsibility for the attack. Meanwhile, Pune Police have detained five suspects believed to have connections with the criminal syndicate.
According to officials, the suspects were traced and apprehended based on intelligence shared by Mumbai Police. Multiple teams were deployed to track their movements, and the detained individuals have since been transferred to Mumbai Crime Branch custody for further questioning.
The shooting reportedly occurred shortly after midnight, when several rounds were fired toward the first floor of a multi-storey building. One of the bullets damaged the glass exterior of a gym located within the premises. No injuries were reported.
Soon after the incident, the gang issued a claim of responsibility via social media. An audio recording, allegedly released by an individual identifying as Arju Bishnoi, surfaced online. In the message, the speaker asserted that the attack was intended as a warning to Rohit Shetty, suggesting it was only a preliminary signal of potential future actions. The clip also included threatening remarks aimed at members of the film industry.
Law enforcement agencies are currently verifying the authenticity of the audio and assessing whether it is directly linked to the incident. Security has been tightened around the filmmaker’s home as a precaution.
Investigators say the detained suspects are being questioned over possible ties to organized crime networks operating in Mumbai. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to reconstruct the sequence of events, while forensic teams continue to examine physical evidence from the scene.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, led by an incarcerated crime boss, has previously been associated with extortion, targeted violence, and other high-profile criminal activities, including attacks on prominent public figures.
Rohit Shetty, known for blockbuster franchises such as Golmaal, Singham, and Chennai Express, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident.
