After being summoned by the Mumbai Police regarding allegations of ticket scalping for Coldplay's upcoming concert, BookMyShow released a statement clarifying its stance and measures taken to ensure a fair ticketing process.

On September 22, the ticket sale for Coldplay’s concert saw a staggering 13 million users logged into the platform. A BookMyShow spokesperson stated, “We have worked hard to provide every fan a fair chance at securing tickets,” noting the implementation of limits of four tickets per user and clear booking guidelines.

To manage the overwhelming demand, the platform introduced a queueing system to avoid crashes and ensure genuine fans could complete their purchases. The massive interest even led to the addition of a third show in Mumbai, which also received an enthusiastic response.

Despite their efforts, BookMyShow raised concerns about unauthorised resale. "It was brought to our attention that tickets were being listed on unauthorised platforms, both before and after our official sale,” said the spokesperson. The company distanced itself from platforms such as Viagogo and Gigsberg, and strongly condemned ticket scalping and black marketing.

“Scalping is illegal and punishable under Indian law, and BookMyShow vehemently opposes this practice. We have filed a police complaint and are working closely with authorities to support their investigation,” the statement continued.

Consumers were urged to remain cautious, as tickets bought from unauthorised sources could be fake or invalid.

Coldplay, returning to India after eight years, is set to perform in Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, as part of its Music of the Spheres World Tour. Ticket prices initially ranged from Rs 2,500 to Rs 35,000, but were found being resold for as much as Rs 3 lakh on unauthorised platforms.
