A police complaint has been lodged against Bollywood actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar Singh over a controversial scene in their recently released film Jaat, which is alleged to have offended Christian religious sentiments.

The case, filed in Jalandhar on Thursday, also names the film’s director Gopichand Malineni and its producers. Authorities have invoked Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to acts intended to provoke religious outrage.

According to the complaint, a particular scene in Jaat, which premiered on April 10, was viewed as disrespectful towards Jesus Christ and was said to have deeply upset the Christian community. The complainant further claimed that the timing of the film’s release—during the sacred period of Good Friday and Easter—was intentional and aimed at inciting unrest.

The complainant alleged that the film’s creators deliberately aimed to provoke anger within the Christian community and spark nationwide discord.

Jaat marks the Bollywood directorial debut of Gopichand Malineni, a filmmaker known for his work in Telugu cinema with titles such as Don Seenu, Bodyguard, and Veera Simha Reddy. The action-packed film stars Sunny Deol in the lead role, with Randeep Hooda portraying the primary antagonist. The ensemble cast also features Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, Zarina Wahab, Jagapathi Babu, and Prashant Bajaj.

Produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, Jaat was released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The film raked in over ₹32 crore during its opening weekend.

Despite the controversy, Sunny Deol announced on Thursday that he would be reprising his role in the upcoming sequel, Jaat 2, teasing a new mission on the horizon.
