A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team has arrived in Kolkata to investigate the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This move comes a day after the Calcutta High Court ordered the case to be handed over to the central agency.
Resident doctors and medical professionals across India, including those from AIIMS Delhi, The Indira Gandhi Hospital, and various associations like the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA), have vowed to continue their protests against the brutal incident. They demand the implementation of a central law to protect medical personnel from violence.
Despite the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) calling off its strike after a meeting with Union Health Minister JP Nadda, other associations have decided to maintain their demonstrations until their demands for a safer working environment are met. AIIMS resident doctors announced they would keep their strike active while emphasizing the need for a Central Protection Act. Emergency services, including ICUs and emergency operations, will remain functional during the strike.
FAIMA, along with 32 other Resident Doctors' Associations, has written to the Union Health Minister, underscoring their continued protest and the urgency of implementing a law that ensures the safety of medical professionals.
