CBSE Bars Gurugram’s GD Goenka High School for a Year Over Safety and Infrastructure Breaches

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has imposed a one-year suspension on the affiliation of GD Goenka High School, Sohna, Gurugram, following the discovery of major lapses in compliance with affiliation rules. The action will apply to the 2026–27 academic session.

According to the Board’s findings, the school was operating from a campus that was simultaneously being used by two other educational institutions, along with a university programme functioning from the same building. Inspectors observed that there was no clear physical separation between these entities, nor was there a permanent boundary wall to secure the school premises.

CBSE flagged the arrangement as a serious safety concern, stating that allowing multiple institutions to function from the same campus without proper demarcation could expose schoolchildren to risks such as harassment, bullying, or unauthorised interaction with outsiders. The Board stressed that a school must operate from a fully protected and exclusive campus to ensure student safety.

The inspection further noted that the school was not in a position to immediately relocate or segregate the other institutions using its premises, prompting the Board to take disciplinary action. CBSE also cautioned other affiliated schools against similar practices, underlining that violations affecting student safety will not be tolerated.

As part of the suspension order, the school has been barred from admitting students to Classes 9 and 11 during the affected academic year. However, students currently enrolled in Classes 9 to 12 will be allowed to continue their studies without disruption.

CBSE has directed the management to take corrective steps, including removing all other institutions from the campus, ensuring exclusive use of buildings and playgrounds, and creating separate entry and exit points from the main road. The school must also construct a six-foot-high concrete boundary wall around the entire campus to clearly demarcate its land.

Additionally, the Board has instructed the school to stop sharing any infrastructure or staff with other entities, set up a Composite Science Laboratory as per CBSE norms, and strictly adhere to all affiliation by-laws, standard operating procedures, and circulars issued by the Board.

The suspension is intended to give the institution time to fully comply with CBSE regulations and restore a safe, independent learning environment for its students.
