The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) clarified on Thursday that there are no plans to reduce the syllabus for Classes 10 and 12 by 15%, nor will it implement open-book exams in select subjects or increase the weightage of internal assessments. In an official statement, CBSE denied these rumored changes and urged students, parents, and the public to refer only to official announcements made on the CBSE website for verified information.

This response comes after reports circulated online claiming that CBSE’s regional officer for Bhopal, Vikas Kumar Agrawal, had announced new changes to the CBSE exam format at a summit in Indore. According to the reports, the board intended to cut the syllabus for Classes 10 and 12 by 15% and introduce open-book exams for subjects like English literature and social science starting in 2025 to alleviate student stress and align with the New Education Policy’s holistic approach.

CBSE, however, quickly addressed these rumors, with an official statement from Agrawal himself saying, “CBSE has not made any such change in its examination system and internal evaluation system, nor has any official information been issued in this regard.” The board reaffirmed that any updates regarding examination patterns will be communicated solely through their website or official circulars, advising students and stakeholders to disregard unverified news.

For the 2024-25 academic year, CBSE confirmed it will continue with the single-term examination format for both Classes 10 and 12. While the board plans to reintroduce a two-term format from the 2025-26 session, no changes will affect students taking the 2025 exams.

This continued approach reflects CBSE’s commitment to gradually evolving its evaluation methods in a student-centric manner without sudden adjustments for upcoming batches.
