The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its initial list of candidates for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. Among the key contenders, Babulal Marandi will be contesting from the Dhanwar constituency, while Champai Soren is slated to represent Saraikela.

Other notable candidates include Sita Soren from Jamtara, Neera Yadav from Kodarma, and Muniya Devi from Gandey. Tara Devi will contest from Sindri, Apnarna Sengupta from Nirsa, Ragini Singh from Jharia, Geeta Balmuchu from Chaibasa, and Pushpa Devi Bhuiyan from Chhatarpur.

The elections for the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly are set to take place in two phases on November 13 and 20, with the vote counting scheduled for November 23.

On Friday, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) revealed its seat-sharing arrangement, where the BJP will contest 68 seats, the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) will contest 10 seats, Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) will contest two, and the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will contest one.

In the previous 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the alliance led by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won 47 seats—30 for the JMM and 16 for the Congress. The BJP secured 25 seats, while the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) (JVM-P) took three, AJSU two, CPI-ML one, NCP one, and two independents.

Currently, the assembly consists of 74 members, with the JMM-led alliance holding 44 seats. Notably, two JMM legislators, Nalin Soren and Joba Majhi, have transitioned to Parliament, and Jama MLA Sita Soren resigned to contest the Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket.
