In the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, 22-year-old Chander Parkash from Jammu and Kashmir emerged as the first contestant of the season to win the grand prize of Rs 1 crore. The exciting moment came when Chander successfully answered a challenging geography question.

The Rs 1 crore question asked: “The largest city in which country is not its capital but a port with an Arabic name meaning ‘abode of peace?’” The options were A) Somalia, B) Oman, C) Tanzania, and D) Brunei. After using the ‘Double Dip’ lifeline, Chander chose Tanzania, which was the correct answer.

The episode featured a heartwarming moment as Amitabh Bachchan congratulated the young contestant with a hug, visibly overjoyed by Chander’s achievement. Along with the cash prize, Chander also won a car.

Chander was then presented with the Rs 7 crore question: "Who was the first recorded child born to English parents in North America in 1587?" Unsure of the answer and having used all his lifelines, Chander chose to leave the game. At Amitabh’s encouragement to guess, he selected option A) Virginia Dare, which was indeed the correct answer.

Chander, who has undergone seven surgeries due to a congenital medical condition, credited his success to remaining calm and focused, as well as his strategy of eliminating irrelevant answers to edge closer to victory.

Kaun Banega Crorepati season 16 airs on Sony TV and streams on SonyLIV.
