Born in Soweto to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother, Adetshina faced criticism regarding her eligibility for Miss South Africa due to her mixed heritage.

The backlash prompted an investigation by South Africa's home affairs department. While no fault was found with Adetshina's actions, there were concerns about her mother's acquisition of South African citizenship. For her family's safety, Adetshina chose to withdraw from the Miss South Africa contest.
