Continuous heavy rain overnight has led to severe waterlogging in Mumbai, significantly disrupting public transport and bringing the city to a near standstill. As the relentless downpour continues for the third consecutive day, the weather department has issued warnings for Mumbai and neighboring areas, including Pune, Thane, Palghar, and other districts.

The meteorological office has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall for Mumbai today, indicating that the situation may worsen. On Friday, central Mumbai recorded an average rainfall of 78 mm, while the eastern and western parts of the city recorded 57 mm and 67 mm, respectively.

Tragically, one person lost their life, and three others were injured when part of a balcony from a four-story residential building on Grant Road in south Mumbai collapsed. Fire brigade officials reported that 13 people have been rescued from the affected building so far.

The intense rain has led to significant waterlogging on roads and railway tracks, disrupting public transportation. Local trains are reportedly running 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule. A train engine malfunction on the Central Railway's Mainline has further exacerbated delays, as reported by news agency PTI.

Visuals from Chembur Link Road, a major traffic junction connecting South Mumbai to Thane, show nearly one-and-a-half feet of water accumulated due to the continuous rainfall. Additionally, the Andheri and Malad subways, crucial routes for city commuters, have been closed as a precautionary measure against waterlogging.

Tulsi Lake, one of Mumbai's seven primary sources of potable water, has started overflowing following heavy rains in its catchment area over the past few days. While this is a positive sign amid a 10% water cut in the city, the current situation remains critical.

In Borivali's Sanjay Gandhi National Park, approximately 20 people were stranded in floodwaters. Forest department employees formed a human chain to help people cross a fast-flowing stream safely.

In Thane, the protection wall of a road collapsed on Saturday morning due to heavy rain. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Rescue teams have since removed the debris from the 20x10 feet wall collapse in Siddheswar Talao.

The weather department has forecasted heavy rains for Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan, and Goa regions on Sunday. A yellow alert has been issued for 12 districts in Maharashtra, including Pune, Thane, Nashik, and Palghar. For Mumbai, the forecast has been upgraded to an orange alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming hours.
