Delhi and NCR Hit by Heavy Rainfall; 'Orange' Alert Issued
Delhi and the National Capital Region experienced moderate to heavy rain on Friday, prompting the IMD to issue an 'orange' alert and advisories for waterlogged areas
26-07-2024Several areas in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) were hit by moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday morning, causing waterlogging in some locations and reduced visibility due to a thick cloud cover.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert for Delhi, forecasting continued rainfall through July 28. Areas such as Nauroji Nagar, Bhikaji Cama Place, Shanti Path, Ashram, Anand Vihar, and Malai Mandir in Delhi, along with parts of Noida, experienced significant rain early in the day.
The IMD reported on X, "A cloud mass is passing through Delhi. Movement is slow, and a spell of moderate to intense rain may persist for the next 2 hours."
In response to the heavy rainfall, Delhi Traffic Police have advised commuters to avoid Ch. Fateh Singh Marg and the area near Minto Bridge due to waterlogging.
This marks the third consecutive day of rainfall in Delhi and NCR. The weather department also anticipates rain in several parts of Western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Following the rain, the Air Quality Index (AQI) for Delhi improved to the "good" category, with a reading of 50, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
The weather department added that light rainfall or drizzle is expected in areas including Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Ballabhgarh, Meham (Haryana), Saharanpur, Deoband, Muzaffarnagar, and Sadabad (UP) over the next two hours.
