In a dramatic development ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Chief Minister Atishi has accused the Central government of politically motivated actions after her official residence at 6 Flag Staff Road was cancelled for the second time in three months. According to Atishi, the eviction notice was issued by the Public Works Department (PWD) just a day before the Election Commission announced the polling schedule.

Atishi alleged that the BJP was targeting her and her family as part of a political vendetta. “When I became Chief Minister, the BJP threw my belongings out on the road. They can take away our houses and block our work, but they cannot stop our passion for serving the people of Delhi. If needed, I will stay with the people of Delhi in their homes and continue working for them,” she declared while addressing supporters.

The Chief Minister further reaffirmed her commitment to implementing key welfare schemes. “I pledge to ensure that every woman in Delhi receives Rs 2,100 under the Mahila Samman Yojana. Priests will receive an honorarium of Rs 18,000, and elderly citizens will have access to free treatment through the Sanjeevani Yojana,” she said.

The eviction letter reportedly offered Atishi two alternate accommodations: Bungalow No. 2 at 8 Raj Niwas Lane in Civil Lines and Bungalow No. 115 at Ansari Road in Daryaganj.

BJP Counters Allegations

PWD sources claim Atishi was expected to move into the Chief Minister's residence within a week of assuming office but failed to do so even after three months. As a result, her allotment was cancelled. The BJP has alleged that Atishi deliberately avoided occupying the property to hinder ongoing investigations related to the house.

BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya dismissed Atishi’s accusations, saying the decision to cancel the allotment was due to her reluctance to occupy the property. “Atishi Marlena is lying. She was allotted the residence on October 11, 2024, but chose not to move in because she didn’t want to upset Arvind Kejriwal. Two alternative bungalows have been offered to her instead,” Malviya tweeted.

AAP MP Responds to BJP’s Claims

AAP MP Sanjay Singh fired back at the BJP over allegations that the Chief Minister's residence, referred to as a "Sheesh Mahal," featured luxury amenities like gold-plated toilets and a swimming pool. Singh dismissed the claims and challenged the BJP to provide evidence.

“If they believe there are gold-plated toilets and a swimming pool in the CM’s residence, I invite them to prove it. Tomorrow at 11 am, we will take the media to the Chief Minister’s house to expose the truth,” Singh said.

Singh also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of extravagance. “The Prime Minister lives in a Rs 2,700-crore residence and owns pens worth Rs 10 lakh. His carpet, woven with golden threads, is worth Rs 300 crore. Let’s show the country the real face of extravagance,” Singh remarked.

With both sides trading barbs, the controversy has added a new dimension to the already charged political atmosphere ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections.
