As Delhi prepares to celebrate New Year’s Eve, the city’s police force has introduced stringent security measures to ensure law and order. Around 20,000 personnel, including police and paramilitary forces, have been deployed across the national capital to monitor traffic violations and prevent incidents of hooliganism.

Security has also been heightened at Delhi’s border points with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, given the anticipated influx of revellers from neighbouring states.

Special Security Arrangements in Key Areas

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), Devesh Kumar Mahla, announced that significant arrangements have been made in popular gathering spots such as Connaught Place, India Gate, Kartavya Path, Khan Market, and major five-star hotels like The Taj Mahal Hotel, ITC Maurya, Le Meridien, and Shangri-La, among others.

The city has been divided into two security zones, supervised by Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police. Zone-A includes areas like Connaught Place and Parliament Street, while Zone-B covers Chanakyapuri, Barakhamba Road, and Tughlak Road. The deployment includes:

  • 4 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs)
  • 23 inspectors
  • 648 police personnel
  • 100 home guards
  • 11 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (10 male, 1 female).

Additionally, 35 key celebration venues will have enhanced security, with special teams monitoring malls, motels, cinema halls, and bus stops. Motorcycle patrol units have been stationed on critical roads, and areas like Hauz Khas Village are under strict surveillance.

Traffic Management for the Festivities

To prevent congestion, buses heading to Connaught Place will be diverted starting at 7 PM, and exit gates at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station will close at 9 PM.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West), Surendra Choudhary, shared that breath analyser checks have been set up at traffic checkpoints, and 27 barricaded locations have been designated for monitoring. Additionally, 14 Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) are stationed across the city.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), DK Gupta, the focus areas for traffic management include Connaught Place, India Gate, Hauz Khas Market, Saket Mall, and Ambience Mall. Special stickers have been distributed for vehicles entering Connaught Place after 8 PM, and 10 vehicle-free zones have been established in the area.

Delhi Police’s Creative Message to Deter Misconduct

In a humorous twist, Delhi Police shared a witty message on social media platform X to warn troublemakers. Designed like a party invitation, the post read, "For hooligans, we are holding a Cell Block Party," and invited citizens to report misbehaviour by calling the emergency number 112. The caption added, "If you spot someone who needs to party, just dial 112, and let the good times roll... Venue: Your nearest police station."

With these measures in place, Delhi Police aim to ensure that New Year’s Eve celebrations across the capital remain safe and enjoyable for all.
