A young judicial officer posted with the Delhi Judicial Services was found dead at his residence in the Safdarjung area, triggering a police inquiry and allegations from his family that he had been facing sustained harassment.
The officer, Aman Kumar Sharma (30), is believed to have died by suicide. Initial findings suggest death by hanging, though authorities have said a final conclusion will depend on the post-mortem report and the inquest process.
Police said they were alerted through a PCR call placed by Sharma’s brother-in-law. Officers reached the house soon after and began legal formalities. The body was shifted for autopsy.
A senior officer stated that, at this stage, no evidence of external involvement has emerged, but investigators are examining all possible aspects as part of standard procedure.
However, members of Sharma’s family have disputed the circumstances, alleging that he had been emotionally distressed in recent weeks. According to relatives, he had confided about being under pressure and had spoken to his father hours before his death.
A family member claimed Sharma told his father late in the evening that he was deeply troubled and felt unable to continue living under the strain he described.
Relatives further alleged there had been a disagreement between Sharma and his wife, who is also a judicial officer. They claimed the argument escalated before the situation turned silent. When attempts were made to reach him, his phone reportedly rang from inside the bathroom.
Neighbours were informed, and access was gained through a rear window after repeated knocks went unanswered. Sharma was found hanging and rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The family has also alleged difficulty in contacting certain individuals present at the residence that night, and have demanded a thorough investigation.
Police said statements from those concerned are being recorded and the sequence of events leading to the death is being reconstructed.
Official records show that Sharma joined the Delhi Judicial Services in June 2021. A graduate of Symbiosis Law School, Pune, he was serving as Full-Time Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority in the North-East district at Karkardooma Courts since October 2025.
Authorities have said the investigation remains ongoing, and further clarity will emerge once forensic and post-mortem findings are available.
