Light to moderate rain showers greeted several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Tuesday morning, causing waterlogging in certain areas. The overcast skies and reduced visibility added to the city's already wet conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain throughout the day for Delhi and its surrounding regions, with temperatures expected to hover around a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.

In response to the continuing rainfall, the IMD issued an advisory urging residents of Delhi and neighboring areas to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. The advisory also recommended seeking safe shelter and steering clear of tree cover to minimize risks during the inclement weather.

On Monday, the capital experienced light rainfall, with temperatures recorded at a maximum of 32 degrees Celsius and a minimum of approximately 25 degrees Celsius. The city's air quality index (AQI) was measured at 53 this morning, placing it in the "satisfactory" category. The AQI scale ranges from "good" (0-50) to "severe" (401-500), with "satisfactory" (51-100) indicating minimal health risks.

The IMD predicts that Delhi-NCR will continue to experience generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain, thundershowers, and occasional lightning over the coming week.

The region has faced significant challenges due to the heavy rains in recent months. At least 18 people have lost their lives across Delhi-NCR due to waterlogging and other related incidents. Among the victims, 11 drowned in waterlogged areas, while seven were electrocuted, according to data.

One of the tragic incidents involved the drowning deaths of three UPSC aspirants—Tania Soni (25), Shreya Yadav (25), and Navin Delvin (28)—who were trapped in the waterlogged basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar. The ongoing rains have highlighted the vulnerabilities and safety concerns in the region, prompting authorities to issue repeated warnings and advisories to the public.
