As part of an intensified campaign to identify and deport illegal immigrants, the Delhi Police have arrested and deported five Bangladeshi nationals from west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. The group, which included a woman and two children, reportedly entered India illegally using fake documents.

The operation began when the Dwarka district police received information about suspicious individuals in the area. Upon questioning, the detainees admitted to entering India from Bangladesh without valid documentation. Verification of their identities, including mobile phone records, confirmed their Bangladeshi citizenship. All five individuals, hailing from the Bagerhat district in Bangladesh, were handed over to the Foreigners’ Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in RK Puram and subsequently deported.

Dwarka DCP Ankit Kumar stated that the crackdown is part of a two-month verification drive launched on the directive of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The drive targets slum areas, labour camps, and unauthorized settlements where illegal immigrants are suspected to reside. So far, police teams have verified the identities of over 500 people in the district.

The recent arrests in Uttam Nagar follow a series of similar operations across Delhi. On Thursday, a Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Bablu, was detained in Vasant Kunj for residing without proper documentation and deported with assistance from the FRRO.

Earlier in the week, 11 illegal Bangladeshi migrants were identified and deported from various hotels in southwest Delhi. On December 29, eight Bangladeshi nationals staying in Rangpuri without valid documents were detained and sent back to Bangladesh. Similarly, on December 27, police raids in slums, labour camps, and unauthorized colonies in south Delhi led to the arrest and deportation of seven Bangladeshi nationals, including five women.

The Delhi Police's ongoing verification drive has so far resulted in the deportation of over 30 Bangladeshi migrants in the last few days, with operations continuing across multiple locations in the national capital.
