As a powerful heatwave continues to grip Delhi, authorities have started introducing cooling equipment for traffic police officers stationed outdoors for long hours under the intense sun.
With temperatures crossing 45 degrees Celsius in several parts of the capital, the Delhi Traffic Police has begun trial use of specially designed air-conditioned helmets along with portable fans to provide relief to personnel managing roads and intersections across the city.
Traffic officers often spend entire shifts standing in direct sunlight while regulating heavy vehicular movement, making summer conditions especially exhausting. The new cooling gear is being tested as part of an effort to reduce heat stress and improve working conditions during peak summer months.
The AC-enabled helmets are intended to offer continuous airflow and cooling support while officers remain on active duty. Portable fans are also being provided to help personnel cope with extreme daytime temperatures.
Officials believe the initiative could help traffic police continue their duties more comfortably while maintaining road discipline and monitoring violations despite the severe weather conditions.
Delhi has been witnessing unusually high temperatures this summer, with heatwave conditions affecting daily life across the city. Outdoor workers, including police personnel, delivery staff and labourers, have been among the worst affected by the prolonged spell of extreme heat.
