A slip of the tongue by Telugu film producer Dil Raju became an unexpected talking point at a promotional event for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana in Hyderabad, with a video of the moment quickly gaining traction on social media.
Introducing Ranbir Kapoor at the event, Dil Raju initially referred to him as “Ranveer Singh garu” before correcting himself and saying, “Sorry, Ranbir Kapoor garu.” Kapoor, who was present on stage, was briefly shown in a close-up as the producer realised his mistake.
The clip prompted a wave of reactions online, with some users treating the mix-up as harmless humour while others jokingly suggested that Dil Raju had accidentally spoken the truth. One commenter praised Ranveer Singh as a leading Bollywood actor, while another described the moment as an instance of the truth emerging by mistake. A third pointed out the producer’s amused reaction after the correction.
Ranbir Kapoor praises Yash’s filmmaking instincts
Beyond the viral moment, Kapoor used the event to speak about his admiration for Yash, who plays Ravana in the upcoming mythological epic.
Recalling his first experience of watching Yash on screen in KGF, Kapoor said he became an admirer of the actor before meeting him in person in Goa. The meeting, he said, revealed that Yash’s interests extended well beyond acting and stardom.
Kapoor praised Yash’s understanding of storytelling, writing, production and direction, describing him as someone deeply involved in the filmmaking process. He also spoke about the actor’s commitment while working on Ramayana alongside his own production.
Kapoor said he was impressed by the intensity with which Yash managed both projects, adding that he had rarely encountered such dedication.
‘Ramayana’ planned as a two-part global release
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being developed as a two-part cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic. The first instalment is scheduled for a worldwide release on November 5, 2026, ahead of Diwali, while the second part is planned for Diwali 2027.
The cast includes Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi, Ravi Dubey and Yash in pivotal roles.
The film’s scale has also attracted attention. Producer Namit Malhotra has said the combined budget for both instalments is expected to be around $500 million, equivalent to more than Rs 4,000 crore.
Speaking to Prakhar Gupta, Malhotra recalled that the project initially appeared unrealistic to some observers because of its scale compared with other Indian productions. He said the team aimed to create a film capable of reaching audiences worldwide while maintaining financial discipline.
Malhotra described the ambition as an effort to bring one of India’s most significant epics to a global audience, arguing that the production was being pursued with both scale and cost efficiency in mind.
With a high-profile cast, an ambitious budget and a planned international release, Ramayana is among the most closely watched Indian film projects ahead of its first instalment. For now, however, Dil Raju’s brief on-stage confusion has given the film an unexpected moment of online attention.
