Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh responded to pro-Khalistan demonstrators during a recent performance in Canada, asserting that his global outreach — including his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — was intended to highlight Punjab rather than promote his personal brand.

The incident took place during the May 2026 leg of his Aura Tour in Calgary, where a section of the audience waved flags and attempted to disrupt the event. Unfazed, Dosanjh told them in Punjabi that they were free to display as many flags as they wished, while reiterating that his larger mission has consistently been to represent Punjab on international platforms.

Addressing the crowd, he said he makes it a point to speak about Punjab wherever he goes, adding that mainstream media often overlooks issues related to the state. He emphasised that during his American talk show appearance, he focused on Punjab rather than promoting his music or upcoming projects. The audience responded with loud cheers, and clips of the exchange quickly circulated on social media.

Dosanjh also mentioned that he and his team have been contributing to relief work in flood-affected areas of Punjab, underlining his continued engagement with issues back home.

Komagata Maru Mention on US Talk Show

During his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Dosanjh spoke about the historic Komagata Maru episode of 1914, when Indian migrants were denied entry into Canada. He linked that chapter of history to his recent concert in Vancouver, where more than 50,000 people attended his show at BC Place.

He noted that the stadium stands just a few kilometres from the site associated with the Komagata Maru incident, describing the moment as deeply symbolic. For him, the gathering of thousands of Indians in the same city represented a powerful contrast to the discrimination faced more than a century ago.

Dosanjh had launched his Aura Tour at BC Place on April 23, returning to the venue two years after delivering what was described as one of the largest Punjabi music concerts held outside India.

Upcoming Film

On the professional front, Dosanjh is gearing up for the release of Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali and co-starring Sharvari and Vedang Raina. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on June 12.

His recent performances in Canada and appearances on American television have generated discussion both for his remarks about Punjab and for his historical references, while the artist has maintained that his global presence is aimed at giving Punjab a stronger international voice.
