Diljit Dosanjh Responds to Controversy Over Songs During Lucknow Concert
During his Lucknow show, Diljit Dosanjh addressed accusations of promoting alcohol and gun violence in his music, calling for fair censorship standards
23-11-2024Diljit Dosanjh, currently performing in India as part of his Dil-luminati Tour, spoke out about recent criticism of his music during his show in Lucknow on November 22. The singer has been accused of promoting alcohol and gun violence in his songs, sparking a heated debate.
During his address to the crowd, Diljit highlighted the double standards in how censorship is applied to songs versus films. He pointed out that prominent actors frequently appear in scenes glorifying alcohol without facing backlash, while singers are often singled out for similar content.
“There’s a TV anchor challenging me to create a hit song without references to alcohol,” Diljit said on stage. “For your information, sir, I already have several massive hits like Born to Shine, Kinni Kinni, GOAT, Naina, and Lover—all of which are far bigger than Patiala Peg. So your challenge doesn’t hold up.”
He also called for uniform censorship rules across the entertainment industry. “I’m not defending my songs, but if you want to censor music, then the same should apply to Indian cinema. Which big actor hasn’t done a scene or song promoting alcohol? Let’s have the same standards for films,” he added.
Diljit went on to emphasize the quality of his work, reminding the audience of the National Film Awards won by his movies. “My work isn’t cheap. It’s easy to add a disclaimer about alcohol being injurious to health, but doing so during concerts could seem like targeting someone. If you’ve spread false news about me, I challenge you to correct it. I’m not angry, just stating the truth,” he said.
Diljit’s Dil-Luminati Tour has already wowed audiences across the US, Canada, and Europe. The India leg kicked off in Delhi on October 26, with subsequent shows in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. During the Ahmedabad concert, actor Kartik Aaryan joined him on stage, thrilling fans. After Lucknow, the tour will continue in Pune.
