A tragic accident occurred on Diwali in Andhra Pradesh's Eluru district when a sack of hand-made firecrackers exploded, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to five others. The incident took place when a sack of “onion bombs” — round firecrackers resembling onions known for their loud explosion — ignited after the scooter carrying them struck a pothole.

The deceased, identified as Sudhakar, was riding pillion on a Honda Activa scooter when the impact from the pothole caused the firecrackers to shift and detonate. Sudhakar suffered severe burns and succumbed to his injuries. The scooter driver and five bystanders, named as Tabelu Sai, Suvara Shashi, K. Srinivasa Rao, SK Khadar, Suresh, and Satish, sustained injuries and were promptly taken to Eluru Government Hospital by responding police officials.

“Onion bombs” are potent firecrackers that produce a loud blast and sudden flash when ignited, often compared to a small dynamite-like explosion.
