Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy Given Key Roles in Donald Trump's Cabinet
President-elect Donald Trump names Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to head a new department focused on streamlining government operations and cutting waste
13-11-2024President-elect Donald Trump has announced that Elon Musk will head the newly created "Department of Government Efficiency," a role Trump hinted at during his campaign. Musk will share leadership responsibilities with Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
In a statement, Trump praised the pair, saying, "Together, these two wonderful Americans will help dismantle government bureaucracy, cut excess regulations, eliminate wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies, which is key to the 'Save America' movement." He added that their goal is to make government more efficient while improving life for all Americans.
Trump emphasized that Musk and Ramaswamy would work to eliminate "massive waste and fraud" from the government, streamlining operations to benefit the public.
The announcement came after Trump's victory in the presidential race, where he defeated Democratic rival Kamala Harris by 69 electoral votes. During his victory speech, Trump hailed Musk as an "amazing and super genius guy" and highlighted Musk's significant involvement in his campaign, including two weeks of campaigning in Pennsylvania. Trump referred to Musk as a "new star" who played a crucial role in his success.
Musk, who has been a strong supporter of Trump, contributed more than $100 million to Trump's re-election efforts and actively campaigned on social media through his platform, X (formerly Twitter).
On November 9, Trump's collaboration with Musk was further underscored when Musk joined a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where Zelensky expressed gratitude for Musk's provision of Starlink satellites. While Musk participated in the conversation, Trump was the primary speaker, according to reports from AFP.
