Wrestler Vinesh Phogat expressed deep gratitude to the nation for their unwavering support during the Paris Olympics 2024 after her return to India on Saturday, August 17. Phogat, who arrived in Delhi, was visibly emotional as she received a warm welcome from fellow wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia.

The 29-year-old was moved to tears by the crowd that gathered to honor her Olympic journey and expressed her heartfelt thanks to the country for their constant backing. She also emphasized that her fight is far from over and pledged to continue her efforts.

“I want to thank the entire nation. I feel incredibly fortunate to have your support in my fight. This journey isn't over; it will continue,” Phogat stated.

Phogat made history by advancing to the final of the women’s freestyle 50kg wrestling event at the Paris Games after defeating Cuba’s Yusneylys Guzmán.

Unfortunately, Phogat's Olympic dreams were shattered when she was disqualified on the day of her final match against Sarah Hildebrandt for being 100 grams over the 50kg weight limit.

In response to the disqualification, Phogat appealed the decision made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and United World Wrestling (UWW) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Despite her efforts, the CAS rejected her appeal after a week-long hearing.

Following this devastating turn of events, Phogat announced her retirement from international competition. In a heartfelt message shared on her social media platforms, she expressed her emotions and hinted at possibly representing India again at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. She also thanked her family for their unwavering support throughout her career.
