Eugene Levy and Dan Levy are set to make history at next month’s Emmy Awards as the first father-and-son duo to co-host the event.
Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego expressed excitement about the Levys hosting, stating, “We are delighted to have two generations of comedy brilliance take the stage at this year’s Emmys.”
The Levys are no strangers to Emmy success. In 2020, they dominated the awards with their hit show 'Schitt’s Creek,' where Eugene Levy won the award for outstanding comedy actor and Dan Levy received the best supporting comedy actor award. Dan also took home awards for writing and directing, and the pair jointly won the outstanding comedy series award as executive producers.
Reflecting on the upcoming hosting role, the Levys humorously noted, “As two Canadians who accepted our Emmys in a quarantine tent, being invited to host in an actual theater this year was more than enough motivation. We’re excited to celebrate this extraordinary television season.”
This year marks the first time a father-son pair will host the Emmys, and it’s the first time since 2018 that a duo has taken on the role, following 'Saturday Night Live' stars Colin Jost and Michael Che.
The 76th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on September 15 on ABC and will be available to stream the following day on Hulu.
In addition to co-hosting, Eugene Levy is also nominated this year for his work on the Apple TV+ series 'The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy,' a show that pairs his dry humor with stunning global destinations.
