In a heartwarming yet unconventional turn of events, two women in Deoria tied the knot, leaving behind their abusive marriages. Kavita and Gunja, also known as Bablu, exchanged vows at the Shiva Temple, commonly referred to as Choti Kashi, on Thursday evening.

The duo first connected through Instagram and bonded over their shared struggles with domestic violence and their husbands’ alcoholism. The relationship grew stronger as they found solace in each other’s company.

Gunja took on the groom’s role during the ceremony, applying sindoor (vermillion) to Kavita’s forehead, exchanging garlands, and completing the traditional seven pheras.

Speaking to reporters, Gunja said, “Our husbands’ drinking habits and abusive behavior made our lives unbearable. We chose peace and love over violence and have decided to live as a couple in Gorakhpur. We will work to support ourselves.”

The temple priest, Uma Shankar Pandey, shared that the women purchased garlands and sindoor for the ceremony, performed the rituals quietly, and left soon after.

Kavita and Gunja now plan to rent a place and start their new life together, breaking societal norms in pursuit of love and mutual respect.
