An FIR has been filed against Mamata Banerjee and organisers of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) faction associated with her over alleged violation of conditions laid down by the Calcutta High Court for the student wing's foundation day programme in Kolkata.

The case was registered at Hastings Police Station on August 28, the day the rally was held. It followed a complaint submitted by police Sub-Inspector Apu Baidya.

The FIR invokes Sections 61(2), 223, 125(a), 132 and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police allege breach of court conditions

According to the complaint, the Calcutta High Court had allowed the TMCP foundation day programme to take place on one side of Cathedral Road.

Police have alleged that TMC workers and supporters also occupied the opposite side of the road during the event. This reportedly disrupted the movement of vehicles through the area.

The complaint further alleges that members of the crowd moved barricades and came into physical contact with police personnel deployed at the site to manage the gathering and maintain law and order.

The situation subsequently became difficult to control, according to the police complaint.

Programme allegedly continued beyond permitted time

Police have also alleged that the rally continued after the time limit stipulated by the High Court.

Hundreds of TMC supporters had assembled on Cathedral Road for the TMCP foundation day programme, which was addressed by Mamata Banerjee.

The police complaint alleges that the actions of the organisers and participants amounted to a deliberate breach of the court's directions and contributed to the disruption during the event.

The case has been recorded as Hastings Police Station Case No. 112 dated August 28, 2026.

The allegations contained in the FIR are accusations at this stage and have not been established by a court.
