Five Indian Flights Grounded Amid Fake Bomb Threats
Security agencies declared the bomb threats hoaxes after precautionary checks on multiple flights, including Air India and IndiGo
15-10-2024Five Indian flights were grounded on Tuesday due to fake bomb threat calls. The affected flights included the Delhi-Chicago Air India flight, Jaipur-Bengaluru Air India Express, Dammam-Lucknow IndiGo flight, Darbhanga-Mumbai SpiceJet flight, and Siliguri-Bengaluru Akasa Air flight.
Threats were issued via an X handle, targeting four specific aircraft: an Air India Express flight, a SpiceJet plane, an Akasa flight, and another Air India plane. Additionally, an IndiGo flight from Saudi Arabia made an emergency landing in Jaipur following a bomb scare, according to reports from PTI.
In response to the threats, security agencies conducted precautionary checks. The threats, which tagged both airlines and police handles, were ultimately determined to be hoaxes.
The Delhi-Chicago Air India flight was diverted to Canada for security inspections, while the Air India Express flight was screened at Ayodhya airport. Both the SpiceJet and Akasa Air flights landed without incident, with all necessary precautionary measures implemented.
This incident followed a similar bomb scare on Monday, which targeted three international flights departing from Mumbai. All threats from that day were also declared hoaxes after extensive security drills involving intelligence agencies, airlines, and airport operators.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is collaborating with cybersecurity agencies and law enforcement to identify those responsible for these threats.
