Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli was admitted to Akriti Hospital in Thane, Maharashtra, on Saturday, December 21, following a decline in his health. While his condition remained stable on Monday, Kambli is still under critical care and close observation.

The 1996 World Cup team member has faced ongoing health challenges and financial difficulties for over a decade. Recently, Kambli attended a memorial event for his childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar, where he appeared visibly frail and emotional upon meeting his childhood friend and former teammate, Sachin Tendulkar.

Kambli has been candid about his health struggles, revealing in a recent interview that he suffered two heart attacks in 2013 and has also battled a severe urinary infection. He shared that Tendulkar had stepped in to provide financial support during his surgeries, dispelling rumors about their strained relationship. "There was a time I felt Sachin didn't help me, but I was frustrated. The truth is, he has done everything for me. Our childhood bond has always been strong," Kambli said.

The former cricketer also acknowledged his past struggles with alcohol addiction and expressed his commitment to rehabilitation, stating, "I'm ready to go to rehab. I want to get better for my family—my wife Andrea and kids, Jesus and Johanna, who have been my strongest supporters."

In response to Kambli's situation, several former cricketers, including Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, have offered their support. Gavaskar, speaking on behalf of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, emphasized their commitment to assisting Kambli. "We don’t see this as help; we want to take care of him and ensure he gets back on his feet," he said.

Kapil Dev echoed similar sentiments but stressed the importance of Kambli taking proactive steps toward recovery. "We are all here to support him, but he needs to help himself first. Without his willingness, we cannot do much," Kapil remarked.

Vinod Kambli, who played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India between 1991 and 2000, remains a beloved figure in Indian cricket, but his post-retirement life has been marked by significant challenges. As he battles health and personal issues, the cricketing fraternity continues to rally around him in his time of need.
