Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has been granted bail by a Sealdah court in Kolkata in connection with a rape and murder case. However, Ghosh will remain in judicial custody as he is also a chargesheeted accused in a separate corruption case under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In a parallel case, Abhijit Mondal, a former Kolkata Police inspector arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence in the corruption probe, has also been granted bail.

The bail decisions were prompted by the CBI's inability to file supplementary chargesheets against the accused within the 90-day period mandated by law.

Mondal's lawyer stated that he would be released from judicial custody shortly. Ghosh, however, will remain behind bars due to his ongoing detention in the corruption case related to alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
