The Global Firepower Index for 2025 has unveiled its latest ranking of the world's most powerful militaries, assessing the defence capabilities of 145 nations based on over 60 parameters. This annual evaluation offers a detailed overview of military strength across the globe.

The United States has once again claimed the top position, achieving a PowerIndex score of 0.0744, reflecting its unrivalled military dominance. Russia and China follow closely, both securing a PowerIndex score of 0.0788, emphasizing their formidable defence capabilities.

The top 10 military powers for 2025 are as follows:

  1. United States (PowerIndex: 0.0744)

  2. Russia (PowerIndex: 0.0788)

  3. China (PowerIndex: 0.0788)

  4. India (PowerIndex: 0.1184)

  5. South Korea (PowerIndex: 0.1656)

  6. United Kingdom (PowerIndex: 0.1785)

  7. France (PowerIndex: 0.1878)

  8. Japan (PowerIndex: 0.1839)

  9. Turkiye (PowerIndex: 0.1902)

  10. Italy (PowerIndex: 0.2164)

India retains its position as the fourth most powerful military globally, reaffirming its ongoing efforts to bolster its defence capabilities. The country maintains a robust army, an advanced air force, and a steadily modernising navy, enhancing its strategic standing in the international arena.

India's military prowess is supported by a large active-duty force of over 1.45 million personnel, with total manpower exceeding 5 million, including reserves. The nation has allocated a defence budget of $75 billion, positioning it as the fourth-largest military spender in the world.

India's aerial strength includes approximately 2,300 aircraft, featuring cutting-edge fighter jets such as the Rafale and the domestically produced Tejas. Additionally, the country is actively pursuing defence self-reliance and technological advancements to meet evolving security challenges.

For the fiscal year 2025, the Indian government has earmarked Rs 6.81 lakh crore for the Ministry of Defence, representing 13.45% of the overall national budget. This substantial investment highlights the nation's commitment to fortifying its defence capabilities and securing its regional and global interests.
