The government is considering several measures in response to recent bomb threats targeting airlines, including placing hoax callers on the 'no-fly list' and increasing the number of air marshals onboard flights, sources informed India Today TV.
On Wednesday, officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, and the Ministry of Home Affairs convened to address the bomb threats received by airlines. Sources revealed that the civil aviation ministry is collaborating with law enforcement agencies to identify and update the 'no-fly list' with individuals responsible for these hoax calls.
Based on intelligence inputs, discussions have also been held about doubling the number of air marshals on flights. Currently, NSG commandos serve as air marshals on international routes and some sensitive domestic flights.
Sky marshals, who are armed plainclothes security personnel, accompany passengers on planes to ensure safety.
In the past three days, around a dozen Indian flights, both domestic and international, have been subjected to hoax bomb threats. On Wednesday, bomb threats were reported on two flights—one from Akasa Air and another from IndiGo—both of which were confirmed to be false alarms.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security is working with cybersecurity agencies and police forces to trace the individuals behind these threats./p>
