All schools and colleges in flood-affected Hyderabad will remain closed on Monday due to a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall across the city and other parts of Telangana. The traffic police have also urged IT companies to allow employees to work from home.

Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durishetty has instructed officials to keep residents in low-lying areas on high alert and to relocate them to relief camps if necessary. He personally inspected floodwater flow in the Jiyaguda area and spoke with residents about the situation. He emphasized that more people from these areas will be moved to safety as the flood threat escalates.

The district collector also directed officials to closely monitor water levels in lakes, ponds, and reservoirs. With water levels rising in the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs due to continuous rain, he confirmed that the gates will be opened to release excess water. Precautions are being taken to minimize the risk of damage to life and property caused by the heavy rainfall in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the Cyberabad Police have requested IT companies to allow employees to work from home on Monday in light of the red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). D Joel Davis, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Cyberabad, stated that allowing remote work would reduce the risks associated with commuting during the adverse weather and help ease traffic congestion.

Nine people have lost their lives in separate rain-related incidents across Telangana as the state continues to face heavy downpours, including in Hyderabad.

The IMD issued a red alert on Sunday for extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of Telangana, including Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar, with warnings in place until 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Heavy rainfall is also expected in parts of neighboring Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada, and Nandyala districts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Revanth Reddy and N. Chandrababu Naidu, respectively, assuring them of full support from the central government to address the ongoing flood crisis in both states.

The incessant rainfall is being caused by a depression over the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts, which moved northwestward and crossed Andhra's coast near Kalingapatnam early Sunday morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
