The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) celebrated the finest in Hindi cinema for the year 2023 on Saturday, September 28, in Abu Dhabi, with a star-studded event that saw notable figures such as Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Shabana Azmi among the big winners.
Shah Rukh Khan received the Best Actor award for his role in Atlee's blockbuster Jawan. The award was presented to him by acclaimed director Mani Ratnam and renowned composer A.R. Rahman. In a touching moment, Shah Rukh bowed to the director and embraced Rahman as he accepted his award.
During his acceptance speech, Khan expressed gratitude towards his fellow nominees—Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Vikrant Massey, Vicky Kaushal, and Sunny Deol—acknowledging their talent. He humorously remarked, “I think all of them were great, but I got an edge because people were happy that I worked after so long.” He also thanked his wife, Gauri Khan, the producer of Jawan, for her support.
Rani Mukerji received a warm reception as she took the stage to accept the Best Actress award for her performance in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. She expressed her appreciation for the audience, calling them "warm and wonderful."
