Light showers are expected to affect parts of South Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) within the next two hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a weather bulletin released early Friday morning at 5:40 am. The department also issued an orange alert, cautioning residents about the possibility of strong winds reaching speeds up to 70 kmph.

According to the IMD, areas such as Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Mehrauli, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Ayanagar, and Deramandi in South Delhi, along with Faridabad and Ballabhgarh in NCR, could experience light rain.

Citizens have been urged to remain indoors and take safety measures during adverse weather.

For Saturday, Delhi is expected to see a partly cloudy sky, offering some respite from the rising temperatures. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 37°C.

Between May 22 and May 28, the capital is forecast to see mixed weather. Temperatures will slowly rise over the week, peaking at 40°C on May 26 and May 28. Night temperatures will also increase, beginning at 21°C on May 22 and reaching 29°C by the end of the week, the IMD noted.

Late Friday evening, the weather department issued additional orange alerts for heavy rain in several states, including Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh, warning that downpours may occur over the next few hours.

Earlier in the week, a powerful storm battered parts of Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night, resulting in at least 50 fatalities and many injuries. Hardest-hit areas included Noida, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Meerut, and Baghpat. The storm caused widespread destruction—uprooting trees, knocking down power lines, and damaging property.
